Initial Assessment & History
At your initial appointment (typically around 10 weeks), I will conduct a detailed review of your medical, pregnancy, and family history to assess your health and any potential risk factors. I will also offer initial labs, a referral for ultrasound, and genetic testing options.
Regular Prenatal Visits
Prenatal visits occur every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, biweekly until 36 weeks, and weekly until delivery.
Monitoring of Physical Health
This includes checking vital signs (blood pressure, weight, etc.), measuring your belly to assess fetal growth, and listening to your baby’s heartbeat.
Lab Work & Screenings
All necessary tests, such as blood work, ultrasound (dating and anatomy scan), glucose screenings, and tests for infections, will be performed to ensure any potential health concerns are identified early.
Education & Counseling
You’ll receive extensive guidance on nutrition, exercise, labor and birth preparation, relaxation techniques, and more.
Risk Assessment
I will continuously monitor your health and risk status to ensure you remain a low-risk candidate for out-of-hospital birth. If any complications or risk factors arise, I will work with you and a collaborating provider to ensure you receive the appropriate care.
Labor & Birth Support
Continuous Care
I will come to your home in active labor and provide continuous support throughout the labor process. I will closely monitor your well-being and your baby’s, including fetal heart tones, contraction patterns, and progression. All home births will involve two providers, so a second midwife will also be in attendance.
Immediate Postpartum Care
This includes a minimum of 4 hours of surveillance after birth for both you and your baby, a comprehensive newborn exam, newborn medications, and lactation support.
Postpartum Care
Postpartum Visits
The first postpartum visit will occur 24-48 hours after the birth and will include newborn testing, including CCHD (Critical Congenital Heart Disease Screening) and Newborn Metabolic Screening, lactation support, and continued evaluation of the well-being of both mom and baby.
